Give your child a memory they'll never forget. At Casa Ghiorsi, your kids meet our gentle horses up close — grooming them, learning their language, and riding through the open fields of one of Denmark's most beautiful islands. A real experience, not a tourist attraction.
Guided rides on a lead rein with our calm, well-handled horses. Just right for first-timers and children who've been in the saddle a time or two.
Your child learns to brush and tend to the horses — building a real bond and a quiet sense of responsibility that lasts well beyond the visit.
Parents are warmly welcome to join in every step of the way. Get as close as you like.
We share what horses are really telling us through their body language — ears, tail, posture. A surprisingly rich lesson that children absorb naturally.
Ride along fields and quiet paths with views across Ærø's rolling landscape.
Our guides are experienced and our horses well-trained. Young children must be accompanied by an adult helper. Helmets are required. We have a few to borrow, but we recommend bringing your own riding or cycling helmet for the best fit.
At Casa Ghiorsi, we offer guided riding sessions for children on our own horses. Your child spends real time with us and the animals — learning to care for them, read their mood, and understand how they communicate.
We talk about how horses think, what makes them calm or curious, and how to approach them with confidence. By the end, most children are surprised by how much they've picked up — and how much they want to come back.
Each session has three parts: a guided ride on a lead rein through our fields and the farm's surrounding paths; hands-on horse care where your child grooms the horse themselves; and a relaxed introduction to horse behaviour through body language.
Whether your child has never sat on a horse before, or has a little experience, we tailor the session to their level and confidence.
When you book a pony riding session with us on Ærø, your child gets the full horse experience:
Meeting the horses: We start slowly and gently. Your child gets to stroke the horses, feel their warmth, and build a little trust — at whatever pace feels right for them.
Reading horse language: We talk about what horses are actually telling us. What does it mean when a horse flicks an ear, swishes its tail, or turns its head? Children pick this up quickly — and love feeling like they're in on the secret.
Time to connect: We never rush. There's time to ask questions, have a laugh, and simply enjoy being close to the horses. Some children just want to stand and watch — and that's perfectly fine too.
Grooming & getting ready: Your child helps prepare the horse for riding — brushing the coat, using a hoof pick, getting everything just right. A hands-on moment they'll remember.
The ride: And then, off we go. We lead the horse on a rein through our fields and along the farm's quiet paths. Your child sits tall in the saddle, takes in the views, and feels the rhythm of the horse beneath them — out in the open air of Ærø.
Duration: Sessions last around 45 minutes, depending on the child's age and how the afternoon unfolds.
What to wear: Clothes that can get a bit muddy, and sturdy closed-toe shoes (boots are ideal). A riding or cycling helmet is required — we have a few to borrow, but bringing your own ensures the best fit.
All weathers: We ride rain or shine — pack a waterproof layer just in case. The horses don't mind, and neither do most children.
All levels welcome: Never ridden before? No problem at all. We adapt every session to your child's age, confidence, and pace.
Parents welcome: Come along, watch, take photos, and get involved. Young children need an adult alongside them as an extra pair of hands.
Booking: Book ahead where you can — particularly in summer, sessions fill up quickly.
Price: 45 minutes of pony riding & time with the horses — 250 DKK per child
